Where and Why Are Cane Corsos Banned? | 2023 Guide (2023)

Did you know that in the United States, Canada and many other countries, Cane Corsos are banned for the safety of people and their pets? Want to find out where and why are Cane Corsos banned?

The most common example is when a Cane Corso bites a child. This is because of the size differences between this breed of dog and a human. They have an average weight between 70-90 pounds which can lead to serious injury if they were to bite someone.

That being said, I wanted to know more about what happened that led to this decision. So I did some research on my own and found out where this ban started happening, who started it and why.

In addition, I also found out how dangerous Cane Corsos are when left in homes as well as some interesting facts about how these dogs are raised, so I hope you find this blog helpful!

Interesting Facts about Cane Corsos ban

One of the most interesting facts about Cane Corsos is that they are bred to be hunters. They were originally bred to hunt wild boars and other animals as well as protect their owners from these dangerous animals.

This is why many people still keep these dogs in the house. But because they are a hunting breed, they can have some different issues such as being aggressive towards family members or strangers.

Another interesting fact about these dogs is that they don’t bark a lot! It’s really hard to hear the dog if it doesn’t bark, which is why they tend to be left outside more often than expected by their owners.

This ban on Cane Corsos started back in 1894 when an Italian woman was killed by her Cane Corso for unknown reasons.

The woman had reportedly been attacked by her husband first before he was fatally stabbed by his dog as well.

This happened at a time when Italian immigrants were arriving in America with all sorts of exotic breeds of dogs who were not suitable for living in the United States with their current laws on pets.

They wanted to make it illegal for these exotic breeds of dogs to be brought into this country and thus, the banning of Cane Corsos began!

This law led to many other countries banning these types of dogs from entering their borders until the modern-day!

Background information on Cane Corsos

Cane Corsos are a type of Molosser dog from Italy. They have an average height of between 26-31 in and an average weight of 100-110 pounds. This breed is mostly used for hunting large, dangerous games such as boar, bear and wildcats.

Cane Corsos were not originally bred for defence purposes but were actually bred for their skills to hunt down prey.

In 2009, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) decided to ban Cane Corsos because they share similarities with Pit Bulls which are known to be aggressive breeds.

This decision was made because they believe that this breed is also potentially dangerous when not socialized properly due to its size and potential to inflict serious injury on humans or other animals.

There has been no further evidence released on why these dogs were banned, so it remains unknown if this decision will change in the future or if it was just a temporary ban while they investigated further into this breed’s potential as a danger or threat.

Why are Cane Corsos banned in some places?

Cane Corsos are banned because of their size, which leads to serious injury to humans and their pets when they’re left out.

In addition, people could also be harmed by Cane Corsos when they’re left in their homes.

Although these dogs are not banned everywhere, some places have a ban on them for the safety of people and animals.

This is because Cane Corsos don’t understand that they need to be gentle around children, but instead feel like they can bite as hard as they want.

One of the first bans of Cane Corso started back in Canada back in 1989 when a group of kids were bitten by a Cane Corso.

The police investigated the matter and found out that the dog’s owner was not allowed to own any type of dog because of his criminal past.

They told him that he would have to sell the dog or give it away if he wanted to keep it any longer.

Who started the ban of Cane Corso?

There are many people and organizations who have been trying to ban this breed of dog for years. The most common example of this is the American Temperament Test Society (ATTS).

(Video) 8 Things You Must Never Do to Your Cane Corso

They were the first organization to propose a law that banned Cane Corsos in 1997. In 1999, they began to enforce it.

Another important organization that contributed to the ban was the Pontifical Council for Animal Welfare which proposed and enforced a law banning Cane Corsos on their website in 2007.

The reason why these organizations proposed and enforced laws about banning this breed of dog was that there had been many reports about how dangerous these dogs can be when left in homes.

People and their pets have died or were injured due to the aggressive behaviour of these dogs. So if you are an owner of a Cane Corso, you should be careful and know what your rights are as well as what your responsibilities are when owning one!

Are Cane Corsos dangerous?

I found that Cane Corsos are dangerous because they have the potential to not only bite people, but also other animals. They have been known to attack and bite children and even kill pets if their owners don’t take proper precautions.

To mitigate this risk, Cane Corsos need to be kept in a fenced-in area with no children present. Additionally, you should keep your pet on a leash when walking with them outside their enclosure.

If you were to leave your dog with someone else for any reason, make sure they are also properly trained and well socialized with animals so they can avoid being bitten.

Do you have a Cane Corso? Are you planning to get one? If so, then I recommend getting them obedience training as soon as possible. It will help them learn what behaviours are appropriate and increase the chances of avoiding being attacked by other dogs or humans when they do bite someone.

Why was the Cane Corso banned?

Cane Corsos have been banned for many reasons. The most common reason is that they are a breed of dog that has historically been known to be dangerous. With this in mind, it’s easy to see why these dogs are banned from homes and from being kept as pets.

Another reason is the size difference between this breed and humans. Dogs of this size can cause serious injury and even death if they were to bite someone.

Cane Corsos have an average weight between 70-90 pounds which makes them a bigger risk than other breeds of dogs, which typically weigh in at around 20 pounds.

Cane Corsos can be a dangerous breed to leave home alone if they are not trained and socialised like any other dog.

However, owners of Cane Corsos need to be more careful because they are strong, intelligent and athletic and can easily knock things over if they were not supervised.

They also have a lot of pent up energy that needs to be released so it can potentially become harmful or even dangerous for your family if left unattended for too long.

Additionally, these dogs love to play with other animals and can get aggressive with them without realizing it which leads to serious injuries as well as animal abuse.

It’s important to keep in mind that even though these dogs are good guard dogs, they should never be left unattended with small children who may not understand the difference between a friendly dog and an aggressive dog.
